伊拉克戰爭

伊拉克戰爭是2003年3月20日，以美國和英國為主的聯合部隊在未經聯合國授權下正式宣佈對伊拉克開戰。澳洲和波蘭的軍隊也參與了此次聯合軍事行動。軍事行動是在美國總統喬治·w·布殊對伊拉克總統薩達姆·侯賽因所發出的要求他和他的兒子在48小時內離開伊拉克的最後通牒到期後開始的。
聯合部隊是由12萬人的美軍部隊、4萬5千人的英軍部隊、2千多人的澳洲軍隊和200人的波蘭軍隊所組成的，除此之外還有大約5萬人的伊拉克反叛軍。他們是通過駐扎在科威特的美軍基地正式對伊發動軍事打擊的。
美國第三步兵師從科威特西北方向的沙漠向巴格達挺進，伴隨他們作戰的還有美國第101空中突擊師和第82空降師的若干部隊。在另一個方向，伊拉克東南部方向，美國海軍陸戰隊第一遠征部隊和英國遠征軍（包含第四和第七裝甲旅組成的第一裝甲師以及若干海軍陸戰隊）則發動了鉗形攻勢以打開伊拉克的海運通道。在戰爭進行了兩周後，美軍又在伊拉克北部山區投入了173空降旅以及特種部隊，並和該地的庫爾德反叛軍結成同盟，美國預期中的準備在北方投入的第4步兵師則由於土耳其議會的反對而未能在該地參加戰鬥。
經過兩個星期的激戰，英軍首先控制了伊拉克南部的石油重鎮、伊拉克第二大城市巴士拉。在伊拉克全境都出現了斷水和停電等人道主義危機。國際多個人道組織向伊拉克運輸救援物資。這些援助物資大多都從聯軍所控制的烏姆蓋茨爾港進入伊拉克，還有部分則從科威特進入伊拉克。
